Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical household on the 9th of August, 1963 at Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. When she was a kid she was a singer in the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. By the time she was 15, Houston had sung professionally backing vocals with her mother on Chaka Khan's hit song in 1978 Im Every Woman. The singer went on to sing the backing vocals of Jermaine Jackson, Lou Rawls and her mother, and also was briefly models on the front cover of Seventeen magazine in 1981. The vocals she sang with the New York-based band Material attracted major record labels such as Arista. She signed with Arista in 1983, where she continued to work for the rest of her professional career. Whitney Houston, her debut album that debuted in 1985 was the most successful debut of an artist. Several singles from her album were hit, including The Greatest Love of All and Saving All My Love. The album sold 3 million copies during the first year of its release in US and then went on to achieve a worldwide sales of 25 million, earning them the country's first six Grammys. The Whitney album released in 1987 that featured songs like that I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to continue her popularity. However, it is The Bodyguard of 1992 that turned her into one of the most successful artists in history. Although the film was not an immediate success, nor was her performance, the soundtrack of the film's Dolly Parton version I Will Always Love You reached the top spot on both the album and single charts across the United States for months. The singer sold more than 44 million albums across the globe. That same year she was married to Bobby Brown who was a ex- New Edition singer. She had their only daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown on March 23, 1993. At this point that her much documented drug use began and by 1996 she was a daily user.
Dana Bash, also known by her real name Dana Ruth Schwartz, is a CNN anchorwoman and reporter for the political news.
