Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the top-streamed track within 6 months. In 2017, the song Despacito, a mixture of reggaeton with pop music was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also sparked interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs which were Spanish predominantly, as well as four in 2016. In the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, 19 songs mainly composed in Spanish reached at the very top of 100. The number grew to 41 in 2020. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 and soon after famous artists started working with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to create MIA (2018) and Madonna was a part of Medellin with Maluma (2019). Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. But a new group, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music, and other styles was a common method.
